BACOLOD CITY - A bomb threat temporarily suspended classes at Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Barangay Rizal, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay police chief, said that a staff from the records section received a call from an unidentified woman at 10:15 a.m. asking if she was calling the principal office.
When the staff told that it was a different office, the call was immediately cut off.
Five minutes later, another call was received by a staff from an unidentified woman through the school’s landline number informing her that a bomb was placed at the guard house.
The staff immediately informed the security guard on duty, who then reported to the police.
The school principal suspended classes until the area was cleared.
Authorities conducted panelling at the guard house, whole vicinity as well as its perimeter, according to Darroca.
After two hours of scouring the whole area, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team declared it safe and cleared.
Darroca said this incident followed similar case at Silay Institute, where an unidentified person sent a bomb threat message through social media last month.
He said the recent incident could be a prank, but they are continuing their investigation to identify the caller.
Two bomb threats were also reported at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) campus in Himamaylan City and Central Philippines State University (CPSU) in Kabankalan City, both in Negros Occidental last month.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) ordered the immediate activation of enhanced cyber-monitoring, digital forensics support, and technical investigation protocols to address these incidents.
