2,100 personnel tapped to secure ASEAN economic meeting in Boracay

ILOILO CITY — More than 2,100 personnel have been deployed to world-famous Boracay Island to secure the Senior Economic Officials’ Meeting (SEOM) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) starting Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Police Regional Office-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan is overseeing the multi-law enforcement deployment until Saturday, Dec. 13.
These economic ministers and other delegates are from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Ligan is in Boracay to closely coordinate with security forces from the Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the provincial government of Aklan, and the local government unit (LGU) of Malay town.
Most of the security personnel deployed are from the Aklan Police Provincial Office under Police Col. Arnel Ramos.
Logistical and communications equipment such as patrol vehicles, handheld radios, mobile radios, and ambulances are on standby.
