ILOILO CITY — Uswag Ilonggo party-list Rep. James “Jojo” Ang Jr. has downplayed the corruption probe despite being one of the eight lawmakers that the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has recommended to be included in the criminal and administrative cases for alleged anomalous flood control projects.
“Indi kamo mag kalisud. Ang gakatabo subong, positive ini (Don't worry. What's happening now, it's positive),” Ang told mayors in Iloilo province during a Dec. 4 Christmas dinner.
“Pabor ini sa aton. Wala man kita katontohan (This is in our favor. We have not done something wrong),” Ang told the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter (LMP-Iloilo).
Ang likened the situation as travelling the seas during stormy weather and assured to continue delivering sincere public service.
“Padayon kita nga serbisyo. Walang kupit (Let us continue or service. There will be no deductions),” said Ang. “Our mission and vision is not commission,” Ang emphasized.
The Ilonggo lawmaker has been repeatedly named by the Discaya couple as allegedly having received kickbacks in anomalous flood control projects.
In previous public statements, Ang denied any wrongdoing and emphasized that his conscience is clear.
Before his political career and winning a congressional seat as first nominee of Uswag Ilonggo party-list in 2022, Ang was publicly known to be dealing with local officials across Western Visayas region on behalf of Iloilo-based construction firms International Builders Corp. (IBC) and Allencon Development Corp.
IBC and Allencon are owned by Alfonso “Ponso” Tan, Ang’s uncle.
