Ridon explains what will happen once SC rules on House MR on VP Duterte impeachment

The House of Representatives hasn't forgotten about the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte; it's just waiting on the Supreme Court's (SC) final word on it.
Thus, said Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon on Monday, Dec. 8 as he prodded the SC to rule once and for all on the House's motion for reconsideration (MR) on the impeachment complaint against Duterte that was executed in the previous 19th Congress.
Submitted by the House to the Senate last Feb. 5, 2025, the complaint was eventually declared unconstitutional by the high court the in July for supposedly violating the one-year bar rule.
"The 20th Congress House of Representatives is only awaiting the [SC's] resolution of its [MR] relating to the previous impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte," Ridon said in a statement.
"We urge the [SC] to decide on the matter with finality, in order for constitutional bodies such as the House and the Senate, as well as the public, to determine their next course of action on public officers who may only be removed through impeachment," noted the lawyer-legislator.
"Only after the resolves the MR can the House directly look into impeachable acts of the Vice President. If the MR is resolved in favor of the House, the impeachment will proceed to trial in the Senate," he said.
The SC struck down the impeachment complaint before an actual Senate impeachment trial could take place.
"If resolved against the House, a new complaint may be filed against the Vice President in February, under the new [SC] impeachment guidelines," noted Ridon.
The earliest date that a new impeachment complaint could be filed is on Feb. 6, following the one-year bar rule.
"It bears stressing that impeachment proceedings are based on facts, evidence, and principle," said Ridon, chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts.
"The House will proceed against each and every impeachable officer if they commit impeachable offenses such as betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes, among other grounds for impeachment as stated in the 1987 Constitution," he said.
He added that the lower chamber "will perform its constitutional mandate on impeachment against any and all impeachable officers, as soon as verified impeachment complaints are filed for our resolution".
