CEBU CITY – A police officer was lucky to escape serious injuries after the car he was driving fell off a cliff on Transcentral Highway in Barangay Cansamoroy, Balamban town, Cebu province.
The incident happened during a heavy downpour around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.
Police Staff Sgt. Mohaliden Kamsang Samod, a 44-year-old operative of the Provincial Mobile Force Company, was driving a black Eon on his way to Cebu City.
Police said Samod reached an area where the road was flooded.
Samod noticed that the water current was strong and was forced to turn back. The car was swept away by the raging water as it was about to execute a U-turn.
Police said the car fell into a 20- to 30-meter cliff.
Samod was rescued with only minor injuries.
Because of the depth of the cliff, his vehicle was not immediately recovered from the ravine.
