The weather disturbance formerly known as Tropical Depression Wilma has weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA) but continues to bring rains to several parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Dec. 7.
PAGASA weather specialist Charmagne Varilla said the LPA was last seen over Masbate based on the state weather bureau’s latest monitoring.
“Base sa ating latest satellite animation, ito ngang si dating Bagyong Wilma na ngayon ay isa nang low-pressure area ay huling namataan sa area ng Balud, Masbate [3 p.m.] (Based on our latest satellite animation, the weather system formerly known as Tropical Storm Wilma, which is now a low-pressure area, was last spotted over the area of Balud, Masbate [3 p.m.]),” she said during PAGASA’s 5 p.m. weather forecast.
Despite weakening, Varilla said the weather system is still affecting several regions.
“Sa ngayon nga, nakakaapekto pa rin ito sa may kanlurang bahagi ng Visayas at MIMAROPA (At present, it is still affecting the western part of the Visayas and MIMAROPA),” she added.
Meanwhile, she noted that other weather systems are also influencing weather conditions across Luzon, including Metro Manila.
“Samantala, northeast monsoon nama ang patuloy na bumubugso sa at nakakaapekto rito sa may bahagi ng northern at central Luzon, at shear line naman o ‘yun salubungan ng hangin ang siyang nakakaapekto rito sa Metro Manila maging sa mangilanngilan pang bahagi ng Bicol Region, CALABARZON, at dito rin sa bahagi ng Northern Luzon (Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon continues to surge and is affecting parts of northern and central Luzon, while the shear line or the convergence of winds is influencing weather conditions in Metro Manila as well as some areas of the Bicol Region, CALABARZON, and also parts of Northern Luzon).”
In its 8 a.m. update, PAGASA reported that the weather disturbance, earlier tracked as “Wilma” (12a), has weakened and is no longer classified as a tropical cyclone.
