Vice President Sara Duterte has called on the government to strengthen its support for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and ensure that their rights are being protected.
In a video message for the Overseas Filipino Month on Saturday, Dec. 6, the Vice President honored the valuable contributions of the OFW communities around the world, which she had been visiting the past months.
“As we honor your contributions, I call on our government and communities to strengthen support systems—better consular services, mental health resources, and reintegration programs—to ensure your rights are protected and your sacrifices recognized,” she said.
Duterte also recognized the sacrifices by their families, calling them pillars of love and strength.
“Ang inyong sariling sakripisyo at katatagan ang pinagmumulan ng inspirasyon at tapang ng bawat Overseas Filipino Worker (Your own sacrifices and strength are where each Overseas Filipino Worker draws strength from),” she added.
The official called on everyone to build a future that allows every OFW to return home with dignity and to fulfill their dreams.
Duterte also acknowledged how OFWs boost the country’s economy through their remittances, pointing out how they continue to persevere and bring honor to the country despite being away from their families.
“You are the heartbeat of the global Filipino pride, showcasing Filipino talent and values worldwide,” she said.
