Nearly 300 cyclists join 'Pedal for the Planet' unity ride in QC

Nearly 300 cyclists and environmental advocates joined the “Pedal for the Planet” unity ride on Saturday, Dec. 6, to call for environmental rights, climate action, and stronger protection for vulnerable communities.

The activity was organized by Earth Island Institute Asia-Pacific, in partnership with various civil society and cycling groups.
Carrying the theme “Be a Hero for the Planet,” the event encouraged public participation in environmental advocacy and promoted sustainable mobility, road safety, and community action.
It also marked the observance of Human Rights Day.
Participants biked through several major roads in Quezon City before gathering for a short program featuring partner organizations and advocacy leaders. Speakers highlighted concerns on climate justice, the protection of environmental defenders, and the need for cleaner communities and safer streets for cyclists.
The unity ride was supported by groups such as Firefly Brigade, Kalyetista, 350 Pilipinas, Pamalakaya, Unli-Sulong Bikers United (USBU), Maginhawa Eco Store, and the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS).
Organizers also implemented safety and sustainability measures throughout the ride, including a plastic-free policy, the use of reusable water bottles, mandatory helmet use, and strict coordination with route marshals.
The event, reflects the growing public support for environmental advocacy and community-led efforts to promote safer, greener cities.
