Maa Flyover in Davao City scheduled for completion this month

DAVAO CITY – The Mindanao Development Authority confirmed the Maa Flyover is scheduled for completion by the end of this month, marking another significant milestone in Davao City’s ongoing infrastructure expansion.
Speaking at a Business Insights Forum at NCCC Victoria Plaza on Friday, Dec. 5, MinDA Chairman Secretary Leo Tereso Magno confirmed the progress after reviewing updated aerial footage of the project.
He said drone footage showed that the flyover’s entire elevated section and landings have been completed. Magno added that remaining work was “manageable” and expected to be finished within the year.
Located on Maa-McArthur Highway, the flyover is expected to reduce travel time and ease heavy traffic in one of the city’s main routes. It is considered a vital part of Davao’s expanding urban mobility network.
The progress of the Maa Flyover follows the completion and upcoming opening of the P3.1-billion Bucana Bridge, which connects the Davao City Coastal Road to this city’s southwestern areas.
Magno said the near-simultaneous delivery of the two big-ticket projects highlights better coordination among national agencies and the local government, with a renewed push for strategic infrastructure in Mindanao.
“These projects ease movement, reduce congestion, and support economic activity, exactly the kind of outcomes we want for Davao and for the region,” the MinDA Secretary said.
With the Maa flyover’s superstructure and landings largely completed, Magno said contractors are now working on road approaches, pavement finishing, and safety installations.
Once operational, he said, the Maa Flyover is expected to serve thousands of motorists daily and provide long-awaited relief to a corridor known for heavy traffic.
Further updates on the formal opening of the Maa Flyover and the Bucana Bridge are expected in the coming weeks as Davao City prepares for a year-end rollout of significant infrastructure projects.
The Maa–Magtuod Flyover earlier came under scrutiny from Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, who raised concerns about the delays and ordered a review of the project’s status.
According to the DPWH-Davao, the remaining work includes installing micro piles, constructing MSE retaining walls, completing drainage, and constructing concrete railings and parapets.
It also noted that workers need to lay a 300-millimeter-thick four-lane road. Road widening and the installation of solar-powered streetlights are also in progress.
The department noted that 30 electric posts have been moved, leaving only five more to relocate. Out of 16 telecom utility lines, 11 have been transferred so far.
James Lee Arietta of the DPWH-Davao Planning and Design Division said the flyover is targeted to be usable this month. He said crews are working on removing
electrical poles and telecom lines to clear the roads.
