Biñan Tatak Gel Arellano U Lady Chiefs hacked out an epic 19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-12, 15-8 reverse sweep to dethrone champion Quezon Tangerines and advance in the finals of the 2025 Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball Association (MPVA) on Friday night at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Chiefs put on a clinic in the deciding frame to cap a searing comeback from two sets down for a 2-1 semifinal series win, avenging its sweep defeat in last year’s finals.
Biñan thus earned a shot at the mighty and unbeaten Dasma Monarchs in the best-of-three finals next week at a still-to-be-announced venue for the coveted crown of the upstart regional league founded by also MPBL chairman Manny Pacquiao.
Backed by three-time UAAP and four-peat NCAA champion, the top-ranked Dasma, with a 16-0 slate so far, was the first team to barge into the finals as early as last week after a 2-0 sweep on the fourth-ranked Negros ICC Blue Hawks, 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 and 25-12, 25-16, 25-6.
Crisanta Servidad saved her best for last with a 30-point sizzler as the Lady Chiefs bounced back big time after a deflating sweep in Game 2, 18-25, 15-25, 19-25.
Biñan took Game 1, also essaying a 17-25, 25-21, 15-25, 26-24, 15-13 comeback win to set the tone in their extended rematch after Dasma’s easy work in the other bracket of the MPVA backed by Mikasa, Asics, Spurway Enterprise, Gerflor, Smart Communications and XIV Apparel.
Laika Tudlasan, the team’s leading scorer, was steady with 17 points while Samantha Gabrielle Tiratira and Heart Vilaflores had 10 and nine points, respectively, to backstop Servidad.
Servidad poured majority of her points in the last two sets, where Biñan vented its ire with a combined margin of 20 points against the reigning champions after a flat 0-2 start, 19-25, 19-25.
Rhea Mae Densing, Zam Nolasco and Clydel Mae Catarig had their usual numbers with 17, 15 and 12 points, respectively, but still came up short for Quezon represented by the four-peat NCAA champion College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers.
Quezon, then a new squad, dominated last year with a 16-2 slate only to be dethroned this season by the mighty Dasma squad and vengeful rival Biñan in the finals of the eight-team regional tournament organized by the Volleyball Masters of the Philippines.
