Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. has committed to modernize and develop the workforce of the Government Arsenal (GA), one of its attached agencies that is in charge of manufacturing standard firearms and ammunition.
Teodoro made the vow during his visit to GA in Limay, Bataan last Wednesday, Dec. 3, where he met with the leadership of GA and “discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen the Arsenal's facilities, equipment, and overall operational efficiency.”
“The visit reflects the DND’s dedication to supporting the Government Arsenal in its mission to provide critical capabilities for national defense and public safety, while fostering a safe, efficient, and modern working environment,” DND spokesperson Asst. Sec. Arsenio Andolong said on Friday, Dec. 5.
According to the defense chief, the GA is a critical component of the country’s national defense and public safety capabilities. He said the DND’s focus is to equip GA with modern facilities and technology while investing in the skills and well-being of its personnel.
Teodoro emphasized GA’s key role in ensuring the country’s self-reliance in munitions production for the military, police, and other law enforcement agencies.
He also held a dialogue with GA employees which gave them a platform to raise concerns and share ideas on workplace conditions and organizational development.
In May 2021, a tragic explosion occurred at the Primer Composition Mixing Facility of GA’s Explosives Division which claimed the lives of two personnel.
Further, Teodoro encouraged GA personnel to embrace continuous learning, foster cooperation, and uphold a commitment to quality and integrity in all their tasks as he emphasized the importance of a resilient and engaged workforce.
