The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the driver’s license of a vlogger for multiple road safety violations while driving a sports utility vehicle in a video that went viral on social media.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lakanilao said the revocation after the vlogger did not show up when he was summoned to appear at the agency’s office for him to explain the multiple violations that include not wearing a seatbelt and for using a fake license plate.
“By snubbing the show cause order we issued, we decided to revoke his driver’s license,” said Lacanilao.
He explained that complying with the SCO is an opportunity to explain a person’s side and it is ignored, the act is tantamount to waiving his or her right to explain and gives the LTO the right to decide based on the available pieces of evidence.
And that pieces of evidence, according to the LTO, include the viral video where the supposed multiple violations were seen.
In the video, the vlogger was seen frequently glancing at his mobile phone which is a violation of the Republic Act No. 10913, also known as the Anti-Distracted Driving Act.
The vlogger was later found to be the owner of the SUV, a Ford Expedition.
In the SCO, the vlogger was asked to explain why he should not be penalized the following violations: Failure to Attach Authorized Motor Vehicle License Plate, Mandatory Use of Seatbelt, Distracted Driving, Reckless Driving at Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
The driver’s license of the vlogger was earlier suspended for 90 days but Lacanilao said the LTO revoked it later after snubbing the SCO.
