The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to hire a Davao City jeepney driver's son after he passed the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination, following a viral story of his father offering free rides to celebrate the milestone.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon personally met with newly licensed civil engineer Dave Rusty Recososa and offered him a position at the DPWH Davao Regional Office.
Dizon praised Recososa’s father, Edwin, for his sacrifices in supporting his son’s education and helping him achieve his goal of becoming a civil engineer.
“Maganda 'yung pagpasok mo kasi marami tayong gagawin next year. Kailangan natin ng fresh blood. Bago. 'Yung hindi kamukha nila Brice Hernandez, nila [Henry] Alcantara (It's good that you're joining us because we have a lot of work to do next year. We need fresh blood, new faces, not like Brice Hernandez and [Henry] Alcantara),” Dizon said.
Alcantara and Hernandez were former DPWH district engineer and assistant district engineer, respectively, in Bulacan. They were dismissed from service after a government investigation showed their alleged involvement in anomalies surrounding “ghost” or sub-standard flood‑control projects in their province.
Dizon said the DPWH is looking to fill around 2,000 vacancies nationwide, and Recososa is among the promising candidates who could bring new talent and energy to the agency.
