Citing his ability to unite congressmen from different political affiliation, Mindanao-based congressmen released on Thursday, Dec. 4 a manifesto of support for House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III.
"We, the representatives of Mindanao in the 20th Congress, hereby express our firm, united, and unwavering support for Speaker Faustino "Bojie" G. Dy III as the leader of the House of Representatives of the Republic of the Philippines," read the manifesto that was signed by 67 House members.
"Speaker Dy's ability to unite different political blocs and maintain a collaborative atmosphere in the chamber is a key factor in ensuring that the House remains productive and cohesive," they said of the Isabela 6th district congressman.
"Under his leadership, we are confident that the legislative agenda will remain focused on the needs of our regions and our people: empowering local economies, improving infrastructure and digital access, strengthening peace and order," the Mindanaoans said.
The signatories cited the need for stability in the House of Representatives at a time of "declining public trust in institutions".
"Mindanao has long stood at the crossroads of development, peace, and nation-building. In times when our country is confronted with political divisions, economic uncertainty, and declining public trust in institutions, we believe that the House of Representatives must be led by a Speaker whose leadership is grounded in stability, continuity, and the rule of law.
"For these reasons, we affirm our strong support for Speaker Dy," they said.
Dy, President Marcos' party-mate over at the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), assumed the Speakership only last Sept. 17.
"As leaders who represent one-third of the country's landmass and some of the most diverse communities in the Philippines, we have witnessed Speaker Dy's steady, respectful, and institution-centered approach to governance," noted the Mindanao lawmakers.
They noted Dy's "calm but firm leadership style" that "fosters dialogue, reduces tensions, and ensures that even during periods of political strain, the House remains focused on its constitutional mandate to serve the Filipino people".
The manifesto backer said they recognized the House Speaker's commitment to "strengthening the rule of law, upholding institutional integrity, and ensuring that the House is guided by fairness, transparency, and accountability".
"At a time when public confidence in government is in the process of restoration, Speaker Dy has emphasized responsible stewardship, ethical legislative conduct, and strict adherence to the Constitution. His approach provides stability and predictability needed to deliver reforms, defend democratic processes, the and protect the national interest," they further said.
"We believe that continuity in leadership is essential for advancing the priorities of the current administration-particularly its thrust toward clean governance, economic recovery, more efficient public service, and safeguarding the welfare of every Filipino family," they said.
