'Pang-alis ng pagod': Base pay increase morale booster for calamity, rally-weary cops
The increase in the base pay for the military and uniformed personnel is a big morale booster and for acting national police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. is a timely good news and soothing relief to policemen following the series of challenges in the past months— from frontliners in the calamities to peace and order tasks for big rallies.
“On behalf of the men and women of the Philippine National Police, I express my sincerest gratitude to our Commander-In-Chief for approving the increase of the base pay for police officers. This pay hike not only raises the morale of our personnel but also demonstrates the government’s appreciation for their commitment and service to the Filipino people,” said Nartatez.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, President Marcos announced the increase in the base pay for military and uniformed personnel that include police officers.
The increase will also cover uniformed personnel from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).
The pay hike will be implemented in three tranches: January 1, 2026; January 1, 2027; and January 1, 2028.
Nartatez also acknowledged the President’s support in improving subsistence allowance in the coming years, saying all the support reflects the government’s recognition of the daily risks and responsibilities carried by police personnel.
“The PNP remains fully aligned with the national government’s efforts to strengthen peace and security. We will continue to uphold our mandate with professionalism and respect for the rights and dignity of every Filipino, and we will stay prepared and responsive as new challenges emerge,” said Nartatez.
“To the public, we reaffirm that your safety remains at the heart of our service. The PNP will continue to serve with dedication, compassion, and accountability, always mindful of the trust that communities place in us,” he added.
Earlier, the Armed Forces of the Philippines also expressed gratitude to President Marcos for prioritizing the welfare of our troops through the forthcoming increase in the base pay of the military.
“This gesture of support and recognition serves as a significant boost to the morale of every soldier, sailor, airman, and marine. We, together with our families, acknowledge this news with humility and deep gratitude. It is a reminder of the overwhelming trust accorded in us by the government and the people we serve,” the AFP said in a statement.
“With renewed support, we assure the public that this directive will be implemented efficiently as we stand guard for the safety and security of our country. The AFP remains steadfast in upholding its mandate to defend the nation and serve with integrity, professionalism, and unwavering dedication,” it added.
