The low-pressure area (LPA) being monitored over the Philippine Sea has intensified into Tropical Depression Wilma on Thursday morning, Dec. 4, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its tropical cyclone update, the state weather bureau confirmed that the weather disturbance east of Eastern Visayas developed into a tropical depression and will be the subject of formal weather bulletins within the day.
“At 8:00 AM today (04 December), the Low Pressure Area located east of Eastern Visayas developed into Tropical Depression WILMA. Tropical Cyclone Bulletins will be issued beginning at 11:00 AM today,” PAGASA said.
Earlier, PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the system may approach land and could potentially make landfall in either Eastern Visayas or Southern Luzon, based on the bureau’s latest analysis.
She urged residents along the possible path of the cyclone to prepare for adverse weather conditions ahead of expected rains.
“So ‘yung mga kababayan po natin na madadaanan po nito, ay dapat po naghahanda na po tayo dahil sa mga posibilidad ng pag-ulan na dala nito (Our fellow Filipinos who may be affected should begin preparing because of the possible rains this system may bring),” she said.
Meanwhile, PAGASA noted that the northeast monsoon or “amihan” continues to affect parts of the country.
