The Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) identified the suspect as “Angelo,” who was immediately arrested in a hot pursuit operation following the shooting incident in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City early Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Based on the initial investigation of the Antipolo City Component Police Station, the victim, identified as “Camille,” 22, was walking home from Marikina when the two suspects allegedly appeared from behind her, and one of them shot her once in the head without any apparent reason, which resulted in her immediate death.
However, upon reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, authorities confirmed that only Angelo was involved in the incident. The footage showed him following the victim while she was walking before suddenly shooting her in the head.
Authorities said the suspect became upset with the victim after she allegedly tried to sell him drugs.
In an interview, the suspect said he refused to buy them, claiming he does not use drugs, which reportedly led the victim to curse at him. He also admitted that he was intoxicated at the time of the crime.
However, authorities said no illegal drugs were recovered at the crime scene. The firearm used by the suspect, a pen gun, was later recovered from a vacant lot under a chicken cage, where he reportedly threw it after the incident.
The Antipolo CCPS said they are still investigating to determine if there are other motives in the crime.
The suspect is now detained at the Antipolo Custodial Facility and is facing murder charges.
