CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is closely monitoring the processing of the repatriation of the remains of migrant worker Mary Ann Pascual Esteban, a native of Barangay Santa Isabel, Jones, Isabela, who died in the recent fire in the Tai Po District, Hong Kong.
DMW Region 2 Regional Director Rogelio Benitez said that they are focused on facilitating the prompt return of her remains to the country, particularly in her hometown, in response to the request of Mary Ann’s grieving parents, with support from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Philippine Consulate.
Benitez said they are coordinating assistance with the Hong Kong government for the 151 injured Filipinos and those who lost their jobs due to the fire. Free medical treatment for the injured was assured, Benitez said.
Through the Action Fund, the DMW guaranteed that assistance will be provided to OFWs affected by the tragedy, and is also identifying the number of affected residents from Cagayan Valley.
