Bus driver killed, 19 hurt in Batangas crash

IBAAN, Batangas – A bus driver was killed and 19 passengers were injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a trailer truck at the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Barangay Sabang here on Thursday.
The Batangas Police Provincial Office said the accident happened at around 10:18 a.m.
Investigation said a tire of the trailer truck headed to Batangas City loaded with steel beams burst. The driver lost control of the truck and crashed head-on into an ALPS passenger bus bound for Metro Manila on the opposite lane.
The bus driver was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The injured, including a 76-year-old Australian, were taken to various hospitals in this province.
The truck driver is in the custody of the police and faces appropriate complaints.
