The nine Filipino crew members of the ill-fated MV Eternity C who were released by Yemen’s Houthi rebels have arrived in Muscat, Oman and welcomed by Philippine officials there.
According to Oman TV, the nine Filipinos arrived in Oman’s capital city of Muscat on Dec. 3, and they were received by Philippine officials there, who thanked the Omani government for their intervention for the release of the Filipinos.
The Filipinos are part of the 10 individuals released by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac thanked His Majesty Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman.
“Ipinahiwatig ko po mula sa ating mahal na Pangulo @bongbongmarcos ang pasasalamat kay His Majesty Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, sa ligtas na pagpapauwi ng ating 9 na tripulante sa MV Eternity C na inatake po ng mga Houthis noong ika-7 ng Hulyo, 2025 (Our president @bongbongmarcos wants to thank His Majesty Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tariq for the safe release of nine seafarers of MV Eternity C that was attacked by the Houthis on July 7, 2025),” he said on X (formerly Twitter).
The video from Oman TV showed the Filipino crew alighting from a plane from Sanaa, Yemen.
According to the report, the release of the Filipinos was made possible by Omani mediation, which includes the repatriation of some 35 Yemenis stranded abroad.
They will be handed over to Sanaa while the crew of Eternity C will be handed over to the Omani side.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has deferred the matter to the DMW, saying that the latter is handling the repatriation of the Filipinos.
The Filipinos were held captive since July this year after the Liberia-flagged vessel MV Eternity C was attacked by Houthi rebels as it was passing through.
Some eight Filipino seafarers, who were part of the crew of MV Eternity C, were earlier rescued at sea and repatriated to the Philippines.
To recall, a video allegedly released by the Houthi rebels on social media showed the Filipino seafarers to be “well.”
