AGDANGAN, Quezon – This town lighted Christmas decorations and stars fashioned out of coconut shells on Sunday night, Nov. 30.
The lighting ceremony was led by Mayor Vicenta Aguilar and witnessed by the Sangguniang Bayan, municipal employees, barangay officials, Sangguniang Kabataan, and residents.
This year's theme is “Paskong Pinag-Isa.” The event coincided with the Baonihan Festival.
Twelve barangays are competing in a Christmas decoration and parol-making contest using coconuts and by-products as materials.
The ceremony ended with a fireworks display and local Christmas songs.
This town is known for its puto bao steamed rice cake.
Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry-Quezon opened a Christmas trade fair on Dec. 3 in a popular mall in Lucena City.
The fair features coconut-based products, colorful holiday crafts, food, and non-foods items offered by micro, small, and medium enterprises in Quezon.
The trade fair is part of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP), a comprehensive program that aims to expand the livelihood of coconut farmers and strengthen local processors in the province.
DTI-Quezon encouraged the public to support local products and be part of the continued development of the livelihood of coconut farmers this Christmas. The trade fair ends Dec. 9.
