BUCANA Bridge
DAVAO CITY – Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte announced on social media that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will visit this city on Thursday, Dec. 4, to inspect the newly completed Bucana Bridge.
“BBM will come tomorrow to take a look at his Bucana Bridge. Start clapping ahead of time, pity the man,” Duterte said in his Facebook account.
Duterte’s post drew reactions, with some netizens joking that the visit might be used to “claim credit for a project the President did not build.”
Others said they were preparing a “welcome party with drum rolls, masquerade, and fireworks for the President,” and some expressed readiness for the arrival of the Chief Executive.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Bucana Bridge, a key component of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road project, stretches 1,340 meters and features four lanes across six spans.
The bridge was constructed under the Build, Build, Build program of former President Rodrigo Duterte and financed through a P3.1-billion Official Development Assistance grant from the Chinese government.
Public Works Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain said the bridge demonstrates strong structural integrity and complies with stringent safety and engineering standards.
Once fully operational, the bridge is expected to significantly ease travel for motorists between Matina and the Boulevard area, offering a direct connection to the Davao City Coastal Road.
