NBI summons Oriental Mindoro town vice mayor to appear in probe
MIRANO (Jerry Alcayde)
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Vice Mayor Alma C. Mirano of Bansud town, this province, said she will appear before the National Bureau of Investigation to explain her side regarding the case of a Department of Public Works and Highways engineer who was arrested last Nov. 23 in her rented apartment in Quezon City.
Mirano was subpoenaed by the NBI in its investigation of Engineer Dennis P. Abagon of the DPWH-Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan region), one of the nine accused in the multi-billion flood control projects anomaly case filed before the Sandiganbayan.
“My conscience is clear and I have nothing to hide,” Mirano told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview.
She maintained that Abagon and a certain Joel Briones had been renting a unit in her apartment building since October 2024.
The subpoena dated Dec. 1, 2025 was signed by Assistant Director Eric M. Mercado of the Intelligence Division in behalf of NBI chief Angelito Magno.
The NBI Intelligence Division in its subpoena said they will look into a possibility that Mirano has violated Presidential Decree 1829 (obstruction of justice).
