DAVAO CITY – The local government of Midsayap in Cotabato has turned a P500,000 donation to the municipality of Liloan, Cebu to support the town’s recovery from calamities.
Accompanied by fellow government officials, Midsayap Mayor Rolando Sacdalan handed over the cash donation to the local government officials of Liloan.
The donation was collected from local officials, government employees, schools, associations, and various sectors.
“This contribution reflects the ‘bayanihan’ (cooperation) spirit of Filipinos in times of hardship,” Sacdalan said in his letter addressed to the local government of Liloan.
Liloan is one of the towns heavily affected by typhoon ‘’Tino’’ recently.
He added that a part of the money came from the "Barya-Barya Mula sa Puso" drive where teachers, parents, and students generously shared their loose coins to extend help to those who are in need.
The amount includes the one-month salary of Sacdalan amounting P140,000, which he earlier pledged to donate to calamity-hit communities.
On Nov. 11, Sacdalan issued a memorandum to all local government employees encouraging them to extend voluntary assistance for calamity-affected communities.
Sacdalan appealed before fellow government workers in Midsayap to participate in a pass-the-hat donation drive where each employee may give any amount within their means.
“May this small act of solidarity remind us that in moments of adversity, unity and compassion remain our greatest sources of hope,” Sacdalan said.
