Ferrari is broadening its lineup with a new performance model, the 849 Testarossa. Bearing one of Ferrari’s most legendary names, Testa Rossa (Italian for ‘red head’) was first used on the 500 TR in 1956 to describe the color of the cam covers of some of Ferrari’s most extreme, high-performance and iconic racing engines. It was later bestowed on one of the marque’s most famous road-going models, the 1984 Testarossa. Today it bestows that honor on a car conceived for the most demanding clients; those who want the very best from a Ferrari. The 849 Testarossa is the official successor to the SF90 Stradale and sits just below the new F80 in Ferrari’s stable.
The 849 Testarossa takes its place at the top of Ferrari’s range thanks to its performance, its ability to thrill the driver without ever compromising ride comfort or interior refinement, as well as its futuristic yet deeply historically rooted design.
Past and future in design
The 849 Testarossa is inspired by 1970s Sports Prototypes, bearing sharp and geometric lines that create a unique and timeless design. It wears a broad black horizontal bar that connects the headlights. The styling cue is one shared by both the 12Cilindri and the top-of-the-line F80. Behind, a clear glass showcases the engine, while the tail features split spoilers. The rear also integrates twin exhausts into the center bumper while a full width diffuser stretches across the bottom. This design boasts of greater downforce than the SF90 while still returning better cooling for the powertrain and brakes.
The cockpit features a sail motif with the integrated gear-change gate, inspired by the F80. The new steering wheel, equipped with mechanical buttons (including the iconic engine start button), elevates the driving experience while maintaining the high functionality of the latest-generation Ferrari steering wheels. Finally, a new HMI system makes interaction with the car even simpler and more intuitive. The driver gets a digital instrument cluster while the passenger gets their own touchscreen infotainment system.
The driver gets a wealth of controls at the wheel from the engine start button, paddle shifters, turn signals, and even the eManettino drive mode selector inspired by Formula 1 cars.
Hybrid and petrol
Powering the 849 Testarossa is a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that delivers 830-PS and 842-Nm of torque. It’s paired with a trio of electric motors that serve up a combined 217-PS. This brings the total output up to 1,050-PS. The driver regulates power through an eight-speed dual-clutch F1-style transmission. From a standstill, the 849 Testarossa can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, 0 – 200 km/h in 6.35 seconds, and on to a top speed of over 330 km/h.
The other half of its powertrain is electric, running off a 7.45-kWh battery pack. This particular model is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and can run on battery power for up to 25 km.
Intelligent chassis
Keeping the 849 Testarossa pointed in the right direction and delivering thrills is a novel new electronic system. Called the Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE) digital system, it provides even the most demanding drivers with maximum driving thrills. The FIVE system essentially takes driver input, and makes instant adjustments to improve vehicle dynamics controls and return more precise and repeatable response.
Putting the power to the road are a choice of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2R, Pilot Sport Cup2, Pirelli PZero R, or Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires wrapped around 20-inch wheels.
ADAS
Of course, even this Ferrari comes with driver assistance systems have been integrated to increase comfort and safety. They are fully configurable via the instrument cluster menus, and their features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Automatic Emergency Braking with Cyclist Detection, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Automatic High Beam, Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and driver fatigue monitoring.
Long warranty
Should you acquire one, owners can rest assured that the vehicle will be cared for under the extended seven-year maintenance program offered with the 849 Testarossa. Available across the entire range, all regular maintenance for the first seven years of the car’s life is covered.
The Ferrari 849 Testarossa will makes its way to the Philippines very soon. Price will be unveiled upon its arrival in the country.
