Christmas came early for members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as President Marcos Jr. ordered an increase in the base pay of military and other uniformed personnel (MUP) on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla expressed gratitude to the President as she noted that the initiative was an acknowledgment of the demands and dangers faced by those in the service.
She said the directive sends a strong message of support to soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who “dedicate their lives to protecting our people and safeguarding our sovereignty.”
“We welcome the President’s directive to increase the base pay of AFP personnel and other members of the uniformed services,” Padilla said.
“This support will not only uplift the morale of our troops but also strengthen our commitment to perform our duties with professionalism, integrity, and faithful service to the nation,” she added.
Marcos announced that all MUP will receive a base pay increase starting 2026 which will be rolled out in three tranches through 2028.
In a video message, the Commander-in-Chief said the adjustment recognizes the sacrifices of uniformed services, especially during recent disasters.
The raise will cover personnel under the Department of National Defense (DND), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), and National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).
For the AFP, the upcoming salary adjustment is seen as a morale booster especially for personnel deployed in far-flung areas and conflict-affected communities where operational and personal hardships are highest.
Padilla noted that the AFP is grateful for the administration’s “continued trust and support” to the organization.
She said that improved compensation helps retain skilled personnel and sustain ongoing modernization and security efforts.
