Pastry chef Penk Ching celebrates a new artistic chapter with 'Whispers in Watercolor'
When I say Penk, I have not misspelled the color but am referring to Penk Ching, the renowned pastry chef and cake stylist. Along with her sister, Shen (Chen Ratilla), the two transformed their homegrown business over four decades into a legacy of supreme cake artistry. And beyond the artistry found in their pastry creations, we can also celebrate Penk the watercolor artist. “Whispers in Watercolor” is her one-woman show, happening throughout the month of December at Chef Jessie, Rockwell Center, Makati.
Penk Ching (second from right) is super-happy with the turnout.
The afternoon launch was a special gathering of family and friends—and when we say friends, they may come from the culinary landscape, from the numerous families who’ve had a Penk cake as part of a significant festive occasion, or from circles who simply admire the two sisters or have been part of Penk’s art journey. No matter the reason for one’s presence, there was an atmosphere of genuine goodwill permeating the event.
The artworks that adorn the walls at Chef Jessie are all for sale, and they capture the essence of Penk’s creative exploration of watercolor. While ballet is a core theme in several pieces, it’s notable that alongside her most recent works, many paintings date back several years, allowing us to trace her evolution in this medium. We always wish you the very best, Penk!
