Maroons take on Tigers; Bulldogs battle Archers

Both armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, the Maroons battle the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers at 4:30 p.m., while the Bulldogs, who topped the two-round eliminations, tangle with the De La Salle Green Archers at 1:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Despite a slow start to the season, the State U found the groove it needed from the collective efforts of Noy Remogat, Gerry Abadiano, Harold Alarcon, Terrence Fortea, and Reyland Torres.
Big men Francis Nnoruka, Gani Stevens, Sean Alter, Jacob Bayla, Miguel Yniguez, and Mark Belmonte also took the spotlight with stellar plays inside the paint.
The Maroons and Tigers split their assignments this season, with the former scoring an 89-88 escape in the second round, and the latter producing a shocking 87-67 win right on the opening day.
Forthsky Padrigao must perform the best he can along with fellow hotshots Nic Cabañero, Amiel Acido, Gelo Crisostomo, Mark Llemit, and super rookie Collins Akowe, who has been spectacular on both ends.
Meanwhile, the Jake Figueroa-led Bulldogs aim to sweep all of their encounters against Mike Phillips and the Green Archers this season.
But it is easier said than done with La Salle always a tough nut to crack especially in dire situations.
Kean Baclaan could make his much awaited return after an MCL injury, while Mason Amos continues to build his minutes and help the Archers win the crown.
In women’s play, Karl Ann Pingol leads the reigning champion Lady Bulldogs against Kacey Dela Rosa and Ateneo in their 10:30 a.m. stepladder semis face-off.
