BACOLOD CITY – A police officer was killed when his motorcycle hit a truck parked in front of a memorial park in Barangay 1, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, Nov. 30.
The victim was a 32-year-old patrolman from the Maritime Police and a resident of Barangay Puso, La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Kabankalan police chief, said the truck driven by a 28-year-old man from San Pedro, Laguna, was parked at the outermost lane of the highway with its hazard lights on but without an early warning device.
The victim was traveling from Kabankalan City proper to report for work at the Maritime Police substation in Barangay Daan Banua, Kabankalan City, when he accidentally sideswiped the rear left steel railing of the truck.
The victim crashed on the pavement and taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
His service firearm was recovered at the scene.
Indiape said no case was filed against the truck driver.
