TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-8 said the Trillion Peso March 2.0 on Sunday, Nov. 30, in Eastern Visayas was generally peaceful.
The Diocese of Calbayog in Calbayog City, Samar province held a peaceful rally called "A Trillion Peso Peaceful Rally March Toward Healing our Land" at Christ the King College on Magsaysay Blvd.
Organized by the Diocese of Calbayog and led by Most Rev. Isabelo Abarquez and Jad Adonis Lebario, vicariate youth coordinator, the event attracted over 400 participants.
A protest rally was held at RTR Plaza in Tacloban City. Organizers expected around 200 but the actual turnout was closer to just 60.
Various groups, including Amnesty International, Free Tacloban 5, Oriang, Kabataan partylist-EV, Power for People Coalition, SIBAKK-Sinirangan Bisayas Kontra Korapsyon, Buklurang Mamamayan Pilipino, Sanlakas, Partido Lakas ng Masa, Philippine Movement for Climate Justice, UPTSC, and MASIPAG, joined the protest that concluded around midday.
Protesters voiced a variety of demands, including calls to end fossil fuel use, hold corrupt officials accountable, combat the climate crisis, abolish political dynasties, and prioritize sustainable agriculture.
Before the rally, attendees of the Redemptorist Church Mass were encouraged to place flaglets on a board to symbolize solidarity against corruption.
A documentary about corruption in the Philippines was also shown after each Mass.
In Borongan City, a protest organized by the Save the Philippine Coalition (STPC), Eastern Samar chapter, urged an end to corruption in government.
