Mayor Malapitan leads 162nd Bonifacio Day Commemoration in Caloocan

Mayor Dale “Along” Malapitan led the 162nd Bonifacio Day commemoration on Sunday, Nov. 30.
A solemn and symbolic ceremony at the historic Bonifacio Monument where the city paid tribute to the Father of the Philippine Revolution with the theme “Isang Bayan, Isang Laban: Katapatan at Katarungan Kontra Katiwalian."

Mayor Malapitan called on residents and public officials to honor Bonifacio’s legacy through honesty, justice, and unity.
“Sa kasalukuyan, batid natin na may bagong laban na kinahaharap ang mga Pilipino na nagbabantang muli tayong isailalim sa opresyon—ang pananamantala at katiwalian na patuloy nating nararanasan sa ating lipunan (Currently, we are aware that Filipinos are facing a new battle that threatens to subject us once again to oppression—the exploitation and corruption that we continue to experience in our society),” he said.
Mayor Malapitan also called on citizens to participate in safeguarding the nation through small but meaningful acts of responsibility.
“Ang paglaban sa katiwalian ay isang tungkulin na dapat isinabubuhay ng bawat Pilipino (Fighting corruption is a duty that every Filipino should live by),” he said.
“Sa laban na ito, katapatan ang ating magiging sandata, katarungan ang ating magiging kalasag, at ang ating pagkakaisa ang ating magiging lakas (In this fight, honesty will be our weapon, justice will be our shield, and our unity will be our strength),” he added.
Senator Loren Legarda joined Mayor Malapitan in leading the wreath-laying rites.
Also present were National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr., AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., and Atty. Arsenio Bonifacio, a descendant of the hero.
Local officials including Representatives Oscar “Oca” Malapitan, Dean Asistio, and Vice Mayor Karina Teh-Limsico also attended the event.
