TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-8 Press Corps and the 8th Infantry Division Press Corps joined forces with the police and military to donate blood and address the supply shortage here.
In collaboration with the Leyte Police Provincial Office, Tacloban City Police Office, Philippine Red Cross, and the 8th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office, uniformed personnel, media, and civilians donated blood during the “Media, PNP, Army: Saving Lives Beyond the Headlines – A Joint Bloodletting Activity” on Saturday.
Organizers said that the event aims to unite the community in saving lives through collective action and foster stronger communication and collaboration between media and law enforcement agencies.
"Our goal is to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of blood donation by providing crucial information to our audience, dispelling common myths, and encouraging regular participation,” they said.
Police Col. Dionisio Apas Jr., LPPO director, said the bloodletting activity is timely due to the upsurge in road crash incidents in Leyte province compared to the previous year.
He noted that while the rise in accidents leading to hospitalizations is unfortunate, they are actively working to mitigate such incidents through regular road safety symposiums and "Oplan: Bandilyo," a flagship program led by PRO-8 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy.
One-hundred thirty-eight units of blood were donated during the activity.
