The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) identified the suspect as John, 38, from Koronadal City who posed as “Police Major Calsado” to extort money.
Police Lt. Col. Antonio Benitez Jr., head of the City Intelligence Unit (CIU), said the operation was conducted following complaints for extortion and false representation as a police officer to deceive victims.
Recovered from the suspect were P3,000, P18,000 boodle money, a sedan, and a cellphone.
Benitez said they had been monitoring the suspect since September when he started allegedly transacting with his victims.
The suspect’s modus was to threaten his targets with fabricated buy-bust operations unless they paid him.
Benitez added that the suspect would monitor live media reports of buy-bust operations to identify potential targets.
The suspect would allegedly negotiate with the drug suspect’s family, offering them assistance in the case, in exchange for money, Benitez said.
