In a press conference held in Manila, former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson clarified his stance on recent political issues, emphasizing that he supports only peaceful reforms and denying involvement in any destabilization efforts.
Speaking at the monthly MACHRA “Balitaan” forum of the Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association at Harbor View Restaurant in Ermita, Singson dismissed reports linking him and other personalities to supposed destabilization activities.
He explained that his role was limited to sending food assistance to a previous rally and emphasized that he did not attend the gathering, which later turned tense and violent. According to him, any claims suggesting otherwise were misleading and unfair.
Singson urged the public to set aside partisan politics and prioritize the nation’s overall welfare, saying unity is essential in pursuing meaningful and lasting reforms.
He reiterated that genuine change can only be achieved through cooperation, not through actions that create discord or suspicion.
He also questioned the credibility of Palace spokesperson Undersecretary Claire Castro, claiming she had previously expressed positions that contradicted the administration.
To support his point, Singson presented video clips showing Castro before her appointment, saying these raised doubts about the consistency of her current statements.
Despite his criticisms, he maintained that his primary goal is to encourage transparency and accountability across all levels of government.
