Authorities have placed the Mendiola area under heightened security as police personnel installed razor wire barricades, concrete barriers, and container vans along Solano Street at the corner of Ayala Boulevard on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The measures are part of preparations for the large anti-corruption protest scheduled on Nov. 30, where thousands of participants, including labor groups, civic organizations, and civil society groups, are expected to gather near key government areas.
According to the Manila Police District (MPD), the installation of barriers aims to manage crowd movement, prevent unauthorized access to restricted zones, and safeguard government facilities surrounding Malacañang during the rally.
Additional patrols, checkpoints, and augmentation forces from regional police units and the NCRPO are also set to reinforce security.
The MPD likewise issued a strict reminder to protesters to ensure a peaceful and orderly demonstration. Participants are prohibited from bringing:
-Any kind of weapon
-Firecrackers, paputok, molotov cocktails
-Bladed weapons and heavy objects
-Alcoholic drinks
-Masks or face coverings, except those used for health reasons
Police stressed that these rules are intended to maintain safety and prevent incidents that could disrupt the conduct of the rally.
Authorities have yet to release final traffic rerouting schemes or road closure advisories, but motorists are advised to expect delays around Mendiola, Ayala Boulevard, and surrounding streets leading to Malacañang.
The Nov. 30 rally will be the second major anti-corruption demonstration of the year, drawing groups calling for transparency, accountability, and reforms within the government.
