Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso reacted to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s recent remarks suggesting that he should oversee the country’s housing projects, saying the Chief Executive was only joking but that he welcomed the compliment.
“Joke lang niya ’yon pero (He was only joking but) we’ll be happy to share the idea of horizontal housing, which he saw in Baseco, or vertical housing, which we mentioned,” Domagoso said in an ambush interview at San Lazaro Residences on Thursday, Nov. 27.
President Marcos Jr. commented on the inauguration and turnover ceremony of the 20-story San Lazaro Residences, saying the national government should learn from Domagoso’s housing programs.
“Kailangan magpaturo kami sa inyo paano ginagawa ’yan… Ikaw na mag-in charge doon para magawa ’yan (We need you to teach us how you do that… You should be the one in charge so we can make it happen),” the President said.
Domagoso, who is now serving his second term as Manila mayor, reiterated that he intends to finish all three terms if the people of Manila allow him to do so.
“I’ve committed to the people. That is the wish of political analysts. It is only their wish. But I think I’d rather stay in Manila for the next 10 years, if given a chance by the people,” he earlier said in an interview with ANC in May 2025.
The San Lazaro Residences is a 20-storey in-city vertical housing project offering 382 residential units, each with two bedrooms, one bathroom, and kitchen, living, and dining areas.
