Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima gave free advice to the Dutertes--particularly acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte--following the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision to reject former president Rodrigo Duterte’s plea for his interim release.
"The ICC Appeals Chamber decision was as expected. Duterte's interim release was undeniably flying on a wing and a prayer from the very start," De Lima, a deputy minority leader in the House of Representatives, said on Friday night, Nov. 29.
(There is no one else to blame here but Duterte and his family and supporters, for their statements in the media that were used by the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber (PTC) in denying the interim release, which was then affirmed by the Appeals Chamber.)
De Lima, a lawyer and former senator, went on to advise the former First Family, but mentioend the acting mayor in particular.
(Perhaps Duterte’s children and supporters should slow down, especially Baste, who just recently declared that they would again list addicts for a new drug war in Davao.)
"Mga ganitong deklarasyon ang hindi nakakatulong sa kanyang ama (Declarations like these do not help his father)," noted the neophyte congresswoman.
But we already know, when has a Duterte ever slowed down? They are special. Even with the father already imprisoned, their impunity continues)," De Lima sarcastically said.
The Duterte patriarch is under the custody of the ICC at The Hague in the Netherlands for a charge of crimes against humanity. This is in connection with his bloody war on drugs, wherein a reported 30,000 people perished.
De Lima was imprisoned for drug charges during the term of former president Duterte. The charges have since been dismissed.
