BACOLOD CITY – A 41-year-old former teacher and barangay treasurer was killed after he was run over by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) following a collision between a tricycle and a wing van truck in Sitio Tapol, Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Friday, Nov. 28.
Police identified the victim as Ernesto, a resident of Barangay Salong.
Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Kabankalan police chief, said the victim was riding a tricycle driven by a 27-year-old man enroute to Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City.
The tricycle and an SUV allegedly overtook a pickup truck but the tricycle collided with a wing van truck loaded with dry goods and medicines and driven by a 53-year-old man from this city.
Due to the impact, the victim, who was seated at the back of the tricycle driver, fell and run over by the SUV driven by a 71-year-old man.
Indiape said that all parties had an initial settlement, and the drivers of the truck and SUV were released from police custody on Saturday, Nov. 29.
