The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured residents of Barangay Kang-actol in Dumanjug, Cebu, that the flood control structure collapsed by Typhoon Verbena on Nov. 25 will be rebuilt in a week.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate repair of the structure to protect homes, livelihoods, and ensure safe passage for motorists and commuters.
Built in 2018, the structure has served as a vital barrier shielding the low-lying barangay from seasonal flooding, which has repeatedly disrupted travel and damaged properties.
DPWH said the reconstruction will use reinforced concrete and an improved drainage system to prevent future collapses, while local authorities coordinate temporary traffic diversions and provide assistance to affected families.
Dumanjug’s location near rivers and low-lying areas has made it prone to flooding for decades, prompting repeated government investments in flood mitigation projects.
The swift response highlights the administration’s commitment to disaster preparedness and protecting communities amid increasingly severe weather events.
