4-year-old boy begging for alms dies after being hit by SUV in Manila

A four-year-old boy died after being struck by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) while begging for money along Algeciras Street, corner España Boulevard, Sampaloc, Manila, on Thursday, Nov. 27.
The 34-year-old driver, known as “Carle,” is currently under police investigation.
According to the Manila Police District-Traffic Enforcement Unit (MPD-TEU), the accident occurred at around 12:25 p.m.
Initial investigations indicate that vehicles had stopped at a red light on Algeciras Street while the child reportedly crossed between cars to beg for money or food.
When the light turned green, the SUV moved forward and struck the boy, throwing him onto the pavement.
He was immediately rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival due to body injuries.
The driver was taken to Tondo Medical Hospital for a medical examination.
Authorities are preparing the appropriate charges against him as the investigation continues.
