2025 MAMA Awards held in Hong Kong amid Tai Po fire tragedy
The 2025 MAMA Awards ceremony pushed through in Hong Kong on Nov. 28 amid the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po that killed more than 100 people.
On Nov. 26, the Hong Kong Fire Services Department announced that it “received reports at 2.51pm today (November 26) that a fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po. The fire was upgraded to No. 3 alarm at 3.02pm, and to No. 4 alarm at 3.34pm.”
In a statement, the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said as of 3 p.m. on Nov. 28, “124 persons were certified dead at scene. 83 persons were sent to public hospitals, of which four persons later certified dead in hospitals.”
On the first day of the 2025 MAMA Awards on Nov. 28, BLACKPINK's Rosé and ENHYPEN won the grand prizes. The MAMA Awards ceremony is an annual music awards ceremony to honor outstanding Korean artists.
Emcee Park Bogum, dressed in a black suit, offered condolences to the victims and their families of the Hong Kong apartment complex fire.
"The 'MAMA Awards' believes in the healing and solidarity that music can convey," he said, Korean media reported.
The overall atmosphere at the 2025 MAMA Awards was subdued with performers and audience members refraining from clapping while artists wore outfits with neutral colors in black and gray.
ENHYPEN, Alpha Drive One, BOYNEXTDOOR and I-dle wore black ribbons on stage. Stray Kids' Bang Chan said, "You are not alone. Performers changed lyrics that were related to “fire.”
Donation
HYBE Music Group APAC announced that it will donate 500 million won (about $340,685) through the Hope Bridge to support residents and families affected by the Hong Kong fire.
The six labels associated with HYBE Music Group APAC—Bighit Music, Belift Lab, Source Music, Pledis Entertainment, KOZ Entertainment, and ADOR—jointly said, "We express our deepest condolences to those who tragically lost their lives in the Hong Kong fire accident, and we offer our heartfelt sympathy to all those experiencing great sorrow from this sudden tragedy. We sincerely hope for a swift restoration and recovery."
The contribution will be utilized, in partnership with local Hong Kong non-profit organizations, to support the families of those affected by the fire tragedy.
"We stand in solidarity with everyone impacted by this devastating fire. It is our sincere hope that this offers assistance to those facing hardship, and we wish them strength for a rapid recovery,” said Brandon Yu, president of HYBE Music Group APAC.
Hoon Shin, secretary general of Hope Bridge said, “We deeply appreciate HYBE Music Group APAC for their generous donation in supporting those who are suffering due to the Hong Kong fire. We promise that this contribution will be used responsibly to support the victims’ families.”
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong stated that 63 Filipinos were declared safe from the Tai Po fire. One was injured and one was missing. There were 28 other Filipinos whose whereabouts were unknown.
One fireman, Ho Wai-ho, died of injuries in the fire on Nov. 26.
“Mr Ho, aged 37, was attached to the Sha Tin Fire Station. He was found collapsed at the scene of the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po this afternoon. He was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital and passed away at 4.41pm,” the fire department announced on Nov. 26.

On the first day of the 2025 MAMA Awards, BLACKPINK's Rosé and ENHYPEN won the grand prizes.
Rosé won Visa Song of the Year for “APT.” She was unable to attend the ceremony but thanked fans and Bruno Mars in a video, saying, "We received the 'Song of the Year.’"
ENHYPEN won the Visa Fans' Choice of the Year," expressed their excitement, saying the award was meaningful ahead of their fifth debut anniversary.
Cortis and Hearts2Hearts bagged the Best New Artist award, and Super Junior won the "Inspiring Achievement" award.
The 2025 MAMA Awards will hold the second day of the ceremony on Nov. 29.
