BACOLOD CITY – Although no major threats have been detected, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has placed its forces on heightened alert and is preparing 2,000 personnel to ensure public safety in the Trillion Peso March 2.0 on Sunday, Nov. 30.
Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of PRO-NIR, said they are fully prepared to secure the public, expecting a peaceful protest as organizers are set to raise issues on governance and public accountability.
Malong said they have activated comprehensive security and public safety plans in coordination with local government units (LGUs), emergency responders, and partner agencies.
She said deployed personnel will handle crowd control, traffic management, emergency response, and monitoring of any potential security concerns, as large crowds from various sectors, advocacy groups, and youth organizations are expected to join the activity.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, emphasized their commitment to ensuring a safe, orderly, and peaceful gathering.
“We respect the people’s right to peaceful assembly, and our duty is to protect that right while safeguarding the welfare of the entire community,” Ibay said, urging participants to act responsibly and cooperatively.
The public was advised to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities through established hotlines and police assistance desks.
The first Trillion Peso March was held on Sept. 21, coinciding with the 53rd anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.
