The Philippine women’s futsal team gave it all but still bowed to the mighty Argentina, 5-1, to conclude its campaign in the 2025 FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup at the PhilSports Arena on Thursday, Nov. 27.
Trailing 0-5 at halftime, the world No. 61 Filipina5 prevented a shutout when Isabella Bandoja, a Libmanan, Camarines Sur native, broke through in the 27th minute to ignite a celebration from the home fans.
The Philippines lost three of its matches in Group A, while the No. 6 Argentina secured the top seed after completing its pool assignment with a pristine 3-0-0 slate.
It was actually the Filipinas’ third goal of the tournament, following earlier strikes from Inday Tolentin, the first Filipina to score in the inaugural showpiece, and Cathrine Graversen during their 3-2 defeat to Morocco last Monday.
On the other hand, Lara Villalba, Mailen Romero, Luciana Natta, Agostina Chiesa, and Melina Quevedo delivered Argentina’s goals all in the first half.
The Albiceleste will face Group B runner-up, a position that Thailand (1-0-1) and Colombia (1-0-1) are battling it out later Friday at the same venue.
