The committee confirmed 58 drug-free barangays and identified 15 newly drug-free barangays with no active drug personalities.
PDEA-NIR acting Regional Director Melvin Estoque said that drug-cleared barangays are those previously affected but completed the drug-clearing program, including interventions and evaluation.
He said that drug-free barangays have no history of drug personalities or illegal drug activities, as confirmed by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) comprising PDEA, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), PNP, and LGUs that oversee the assessment and validation of barangay drug status.
Meanwhile, two teenage cousins were apprehended with 150 grams of suspected shabu worth P1.020 million in a buy-bust operation in Purok Cereza South, Barangay 3, Bacolod City early Friday morning, Nov. 28.
The City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) operatives arrested Toto, 19, and his cousin EJ, 18, a Grade 7 student, both residents of Barangay 3.
Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant CDEU head, said that Toto is under probation for a drug offense. He was arrested for illegal possession of dangerous drugs last January and was released in April. Toto was tagged as a high value individual (HVI).
The suspects said poverty led them to engage in illegal drugs.
The operation was conducted after two weeks of surveillance. Both suspects are detained at Police Station 2.
