LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Two maintenance section personnel of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were buried alive in a landslide in Barangay San Juan, Santa Praxedes town, Cagayan province, on Friday morning, Nov. 28.
Wilzon Valdez, DPWH-Ilocos information officer, identified the victims as Enrico and Romeo.
The victims were monitoring the area when the landslide struck due to heavy rains caused by the shear line.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recovered the victims who were taken to a hospital where Enrico was declared dead and Romeo recovering.
The road remains impassable to all vehicles as of posting time and clearing operations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, one person was killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rain from the shear line in Purok 2, Barangay Aurora, Pudtol town, Apayao province, on Thursday, Nov. 27.
Authorities recovered the body of the victim.
Several individuals were rescued after they were trapped in their homes by flood in Barangay Cabatacan, Pudtol.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council urged residents of low-lying areas, flood-prone zones, and landslide-prone slopes in Apayao to evacuate due to bad weather.
Police rescued a pregnant woman who went into labor as the water level on the Abuan River went up due to rains from the shear line in Barangay Cabisera 10, Ilagan City, Isabela province on Wednesday.
Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag Jr., director of the Police Regional Office-2, said the 201st Maneuver Company immediately deployed responders and safely evacuated and transported her to the City of Ilagan Medical Center. She is in stable condition.
Marallag said they are on heightened alert and reminded people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions amid the inclement weather. (With reports from Zaldy Comanda and Freddie Lazaro)
