Rookie cop hurt in accidental firing in Cebu

CEBU CITY – A neophyte policeman was injured in an accidental firing incident in Sibonga, southern Cebu province on Wednesday night, Nov. 26.
The incident happened at 6:50 p.m. in the policeman’s boarding house in Sitio Gahad, Barangay Poblacion.
The 29-year-old policeman, with the rank of patrolman, was wounded in the abdomen.
He is assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Central Visayas based in Camp Ceperino Genovia in Barangay Bahay, Sibonga.
The policeman’s classmate told investigators that they were preparing for deployment to the Cebu City-based Cebu Police Provincial Office when he heard a gunshot.
The policeman was later seen rushing out of his room, shouting for help.
Police said the policeman was about to tuck his 9mm caliber pistol when it went off.
Responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office brought the police to the Deiparine Community Hospital.
