LTFRB vows help in fast processing of insurance for Albay road crash victims

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has committed to expediting the release of the insurance payment for all the victims of the fatal road crash in Camalig, Albay on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
At least 11 people died when a speeding truck hit the Legazpi City-bound van and LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said each of the fatality is mandated to receive P400,000 insurance based on existing regulation on passenger insurance for public utility vehicles.
Each of the injured victims is expected to receive P100,00 insurance payment.
Mendoza II said they are now coordinating with the insurance to ensure that immediate government assistance is provided, “In this time, the family of the victims are in dire need of assistance and we in the LTFRB will make sure through fast processing and release of the insurance.”
During the initial coordination, Mendoza said the Passenger Accident Management and Insurance Agency, Inc. (PAMI), through its president Bunny Atayde and operations officer Bong Nocum, vowed to immediately process the insurance claim for all the victims.
Based on the initial result of the investigation, the van owned by the Bicol Intercity Transport Cooperative was heading to Legazpi City when it was hit by a truck in Camalig town.
Eleven of the 13 van passengers died as a result.
As part of the protocol, the LTFRB has suspended the entire vehicle fleet of the Bicol Intercity Transport Cooperative, involving a total of 10 passenger vehicles.
In the Show Cause Order (SCO) issued by the LTFRB, it directed the transport company to submit a roadworthiness test and Inspection Report of the units and submit all the documents relating to their operation.
The company was also directed to submit proof of compliance of all the drivers of the Driver Proficiency Compliance from TESDA and surrender the license plates
of the authorized units.
“Failure on your part to appear on the date and time stated herein shall be construed as a waiver on your part to be heard and this case shall be decided on the basis of the records,” the SCO read.
