Dy: House respects ongoing flood control mess probe as authorities step up actions

The House of Representatives continues to respect the processes of the investigation on the flood control projects corruption scandal, even as the alleged involvement of more and more congressmen are being looked into by authorities.
Thus, said House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III on Thursday, Nov. 27 following Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla's remarks Wednesday that at least 10 percent of the 300-plus congressmen were being investigated over alleged links to flood control projects mess.
"Ngayong inihain ng Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) at ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ang panibagong joint case referral sa Office of the Ombudsman, nananatiling matatag ang ating paninindigan," Dy said.
(Now that the ICI and the DPWH have filed a new joint case referral to the Office of the Ombudsman, our resolve remains firm.)
"Mula noong unang araw ng ating panunungkulan bilang Speaker, binigyang-diin natin na igagalang ng Kapulungan ang mandato ng ICI at makikipagtulungan tayo nang walang alinlangan sa lahat ng imbestigasyong nito," said the Isabela 6th district congressman.
(From the very first day of my tenure as Speaker, we have emphasized that the House will respect the mandate of the ICI and that we will cooperate without hesitation in all of its investigations.)
Dy expressed his belief that "the truth should never be concealed and that those who are accountable must be held responsible".
Dy says that whatever happens, the House of Representatives "remains committed to its duty to serve the nation".
"Ang pananagutan ay bahagi ng pagiging lingkod-bayan, at ang lahat ng miyembro—iniimbestigahan man o hindi—ay handang makipagtulungan sa anumang proseso habang patuloy na ginagampanan ang kanilang papel bilang mambabatas," he said.
(Accountability is part of being a public servant, and all members—whether under investigation or not—are ready to cooperate with any process while continuing to fulfill their role as legislators.)
"Sa huli, ang kapakanan ng sambayanang Pilipino ang ating pangunahing prayoridad, at gagawin natin ang lahat ng kailangan upang paglingkuran sila nang tama at tapat (In the end, the welfare of the Filipino people is our foremost priority, and we will do everything necessary to serve them properly and faithfully)," the Speaker said.
The ICI serves as the special investigator on the flood control projects controversy, while the Ombudsman files charges against individuals based on the recommendations of the independent body.
