Cop, drug pusher killed in Basilan buy-bust

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A police officer and a suspected drug pusher were killed in a shootout during a buy bust operation in Hadji Mohammad Ajul town in Basilan province on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
The suspect Hamid Idarus, alias Mids and a high-value individual, and his companions fired at lawmen after they sensed that they were dealing with authorities.
Police Chief Master Sgt. Jilhem Elmen, a drug enforcement unit member, was wounded and declared dead in a hospital.
Police returned fire and hit Idarus’ companion, Immad Awalun, who died on the spot.
The suspects' companion, Ridzmar Muhammad, was apprehended. Idarus evaded arrest.
Recovered from the suspects were suspected shabu worth P13,600 which were turned over to the Basilan Province Forensic Unit for analysis.
Police Lt. Col. Basiri A. Hassan, PDEU chief, assured the public that efforts to apprehend Idarus are underway.
