The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed a number of its personnel and mobility assets to assist residents in flooded communities due to heavy rains brought by tropical depression “Verbena”.
Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said police forces in various areas in Bicol and the Visayas immediately assisted the local government units in the safe evacuation of residents from high-risk areas and in providing security at evacuation centers.
“We mobilized and deployed as many of our personnel and all the available resources on the ground to assist all our kababayan—from evacuation and rescue operations to securing evacuation centers and assisting in disaster response,” said Nartatez.
Among the major challenges experienced by police personnel on the ground during their rescue operations include flooded roads, landslides, and intermittent power outages.
However, Nartatez assured the public that personnel are utilizing all available equipment and resources.
In Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, personnel of Bayawan City Police Station evacuated families stranded from their homes in Sitio Plywood, Barangay Ubos amid rising floodwaters.
In Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, PNP units from Guihulngan, Hinigaran, and Pamplona carried out river monitoring, coordinated accounting of evacuees, and provided safe transportation for internally displaced persons.
The Maritime Police in Negros Occidental also conducted rescue and clearing operations in flood-affected areas in Purok Mars, Barangay Singcang Airport, Bacolod City, ensuring communities along waterways remained secure.
Cebu frontliners also exemplified coordinated response as police officers, local government unit (LGU) personnel, and emergency teams worked together to rescue residents stranded by sudden flooding in Carcar City.
Meanwhile, in Dumanjug, Cebu, police officers ensured the safe return of elderly evacuees and their companions to their homes.
The PNP also urged the public to strictly follow evacuation orders, remain in safe areas, and avoid navigating flooded streets. Residents are advised to immediately report emergencies to local police stations or through official emergency hotlines.
